Indivisible Santa Cruz County’s Commitment to Nonviolence

Values

Indivisible Santa Cruz County is rooted in a vision of collective liberation, solidarity, and transformative justice. We believe that nonviolence is a foundational practice in our struggle for equity, dignity, and a world free from oppression. Our commitment to nonviolence stems not from passivity, but from a deep belief that lasting change is built through care, courage, and community power—not coercion or harm.

We recognize that systems of violence—racism, capitalism, patriarchy, colonialism, and state repression—are deeply entrenched, and our resistance must reject these logics in both means and ends.

General Policy

All members, volunteers, and participants in Indivisible Santa Cruz County activities are expected to embody a commitment to nonviolence in both word and action. This includes:

  • Rejecting all forms of physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological violence.

  • Practicing mutual respect, even in disagreement, and engaging others with humility and listening.

  • Refusing to replicate systems of domination, including racism, misogyny, ableism, transphobia, xenophobia, or classism in our organizing spaces.

  • Addressing harm through restorative and transformative approaches, not punitive or carceral ones.

  • Resisting provocation and disruption in ways that maintain the integrity of our movement and the safety of our community.

  • Holding ourselves and one another accountable with compassion and clarity.

We understand that conflict is natural in movement work and commit to handling it constructively and without resorting to abuse, threats, or dehumanization.

Violations of this policy will be addressed through a collective process aligned with our values. This may include mediation, community accountability, or removal from organizational spaces, depending on the context and severity of the harm.

Nonviolence is not just a tactic—it is a daily practice of radical care and collective discipline in the face of systems that thrive on division and destruction.

We strive to hold one another accountable with compassion, always working toward transformation rather than punishment.
